Kathi understands how community colleges operate and shares that knowledge nationally with humor and insight. As President of CLARUS Corporation, Kathi is one of the Primary Consultants responsible for the strategic visioning and interpretation of the data collected through the market assessment process. With a Doctorate in Marketing from Texas A&M University, Kathi brings fine-tuned information-gathering skills to the project team as well as a wealth of information regarding best practices for community colleges across the country.
Kathi has been a popular speaker for the last 10 years at the annual conferences for the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), the Association of California Community College Administrators (ACCCA), the Chair Academy, the National Council of Instructional Administrators (NCIA), the League for Innovation, National Council for Public Relations and Marketing (NCMPR), and other state and regional community college conferences.
Karen Miller, Ph.D
Student Services Specialist
Karen has worked for Cuyahoga Community College’s Metropolitan Campus since 1998 as the Director of Student Life, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, and as Dean of Student Affairs at the Metropolitan Campus. In 2012, Karen moved into the role of Vice President of Enrollment and Student Affairs, now known as Access and Completion. In her current role, she oversees recruitment, enrollment, retention, and completion initiatives for the College, and serves on the collegewide administrative leadership team to develop and implement the College’s strategic plan, enrollment plan, and all-student policies and procedures to enhance student success. Prior to Karen’s arrival at Cuyahoga Community College, she worked at both Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH and DeVry Institute of Technology in Columbus, OH in various roles within Student Affairs. Karen has a Ph.D. from The University of Toledo in Higher Education. She also has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technical Education and a Master of Science Degree in Technical Education with a specialization in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Akron.
Karen has presented at regional and national conferences on the topics of enrollment management, enrollment processes, the completion agenda, various topics around retention and student success, and her recent national research on student satisfaction as a predictor of retention for community college students.
Kelli Horst, APR
Kelli has more than 15 years of success managing the relationships between organizations and their audiences, with special experience in improving organizational processes and navigating complex bureaucracies in higher education. She is the former Director of Communications at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. During her tenure at TCU, she served as a key member of the university’s marketing management team. Kelli conducts operations audits, facilitates the brand development, develops brand and positioning plans, and writes Admissions materials for institutions of higher education. She has worked with community colleges; private, liberal arts colleges; and public and urban research universities through her past association with Carnegie Communications. Prior to TCU, Kelli worked in agency public relations for a decade in Fort Worth and Houston. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Houston.
Online Creative Specialist
With nearly 20 years of marketing experience in areas such as web design, graphic design, advertising campaign development, and media placement and planning, Anna will help clients achieve their marketing goals. Anna brings unique expertise in online marketing to this project. She has extensive experience working with community colleges, serving as the Director of Marketing for Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska for more than 10 years where she has learned how to make the most out of lean marketing budgets. Anna is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in advertising. Anna also spent seven years as both an Advertising Account Executive and Graphic Designer for the Norfolk Daily News prior to her community college tenure. Anna’s background allows her to approach the project from a client’s perspective – truly understanding the pressures facing today’s community colleges as well as the internal culture that has to be integrated into a brand platform.
East Coast Mobile Manager
Sarah has worked with CLARUS Corporation for more than a decade, starting as a research assistant and moving to Project Manager on marketing research and consulting projects. She has now transitioned into her role of East Coast Mobile Manager, assisting our mobile clients in the Midwest and East Coast regions. All the research expertise and knowledge of community college markets that Sarah gained in research projects provides her insight into the markets that need to be reached, their characteristics, and how best to reach them with digital and mobile tactics. In addition, Sarah manages digital marketing support staff from our new location in Reed City, MI. She serves as contact person for all clients in her region, and supervises each step of all campaigns, from inception to completion to reporting, including strategy development, daily monitoring, and presentation of final outcomes. Sarah holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Chadron State College, and a post-graduate certificate in Digital Marketing from the University of Georgia. She has experience in education as an instructor and in advancement services.

Elaine holds a Master of Arts degree in English from Colorado State University and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. She is responsible for the proofreading of our tabular results, final reports, and other written materials developed by our office and sent to our clients. Elaine checks and edits our products not only for consistency of format and style, but accuracy and clarity of information. Elaine has experience working in the newspaper industry, as well as non-profit organizations. Elaine has successfully undertaken the redesign of the CLARUS Corporation website, and has been instrumental in the launch of our new e-brochure subscription services, instantInfo, by creating the program information for colleges who now are subscribing to the services. Elaine researches and develops content for clients’ e-brochures, as well as writing scripts for training manuals, videos, and marketing materials. Elaine has been with CLARUS Corporation since 2006.
West Coast Mobile Manager

Rob serves as the West Coast Mobile Manager for CLARUS Corporation, as well as the instantInfo coordinator, and brings more than 30 years of experience in the field of public sector marketing and communication, and most recently served as Director of Marketing, Communications and Creative Services for South Mountain Community College (SMCC) in Phoenix, Arizona, prior to joining CLARUS Corporation’s team. Rob has experienced the day in the life of a marketing manager and knows the challenges faced. At South Mountain, in addition to overseeing all institutional marketing and communication activities, Rob also co-chaired the college Strategic Enrollment Management Advisory Council. He was also responsible for overseeing college events, including management of the SMCC performing arts center and the annual Commencement Ceremony; the President’s Community Advisory Council, comprised of citizens and stakeholders throughout the college’s service area; the college facilities reservation system; and all internal and employee communication. Reporting directly to the College President, he served on the President’s Executive Team and also represented SMCC on the Maricopa Community College District Communication Team. Rob’s community college experience provides a valuable resource for our clients when planning campaigns. Rob is managing campaigns for 23 of our clients at this time.
Prior to his position at South Mountain, he served as a Marketing Coordinator for the City of Mesa (AZ), overseeing promotion of municipal programs and facilities such as arts, recreation and cultural programs, non-credit classes, and the city’s commercial facilities. Rob earned his BS in Marketing with an emphasis in Advertising from Arizona State University.
Mobile Marketing Analyst
Sarah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s of Business Administration from Central Michigan University. She is responsible for providing accurate, timely campaign data to each of our clients. Sarah provides weekly reports, as well as custom reports requested by clients such as ad comparison and origin of physical visits to campus. She also conducts research on service area demographics, high school enrollment data, and other demographic and socioeconomic figures to inform the campaigns. At the end of a campaign, Sarah uses enrollment files provided by our clients to crossmatch against addresses we’ve geofenced to complete the ROI circle, and provide each client with concrete results from their digital campaigns.
Campaign Management Associate
Jorja has recently graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Digital Marketing. She works closely with the Mobile Managers on each campaign, assisting in the development of prospective student profiles and locations and websites they may frequent, monitoring campaigns daily and documenting campaign milestones, generating site retargeting tags, and aiding Managers in the evaluation of campaign metrics. In addition, Jorja oversees Google AdWords, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other components our clients may request.
Marina holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Terminology degree and serves as a Medical Terminologist and Spanish-English Medical Interpreter/ Translator for Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, NE. She has had extensive training in cross-cultural medical interpreting and is a member of the Nebraska Association for Translators and Interpreters. This provides Marina with the expertise to translate any of our surveys from English to Spanish. She takes extra care and works to translate each survey to ensure that intent and meaning are consistent between English and Spanish-speaking households. Besides translation, Marina serves as one of our bilingual interviewers, conducting surveys and doing secret shopping interviews in both English and Spanish. She also conducts secret shopping studies posing as a non-English speaking student.
