Alliance is located in the heart of the Panhandle of Western Nebraska. Highway 2 is a scenic highway through the Sandhills of Nebraska and it is also Alliance's main street running east and west. Highway 385 is on the west side of town. It is the major north-south route through the middle of the United States. Highway 87 runs north and south on the east side of town and hosts Carhenge. The major urban cities Alliance is close to are listed in the box to the right. Alliance is 53 miles northeast of Scottsbluff and Gering, 59 miles south of Chadron, and 78 miles north of Sidney.
